  • Running Revolution or Sports Basement?

    September 5, 2011 by Admin

    Question:

Which store is better Running Revolution or Sports Basement when it comes to running shoe selection, customer service, prices and customer satisfaction? I heard that Running Revolution actually fits you with the proper shoes by getting you to run on a treadmill.

    Answer/s:

  • If they let you try on the shoes and run on a treadmill, that’s the way to go. You want to get an opinion from someone who’s seen you run before you buy the shoes.

  • I have Lateral Shin Splints even on walking for 5 minutes with good sports shoes. what should i do?

    July 27, 2011 by Admin

    Question:

i do not have any blood supply problem or venous problem. this pain is not there on swimming or cycling but i cannot run or walk more than 5 minutes due to this pain. it subsides with rest. i wear Reebok premier series shoes. but to no effect. what should i do?

    Answer/s:

  • How long have you been involved in running? Assuming from your opening statements that you have been to a doctor, have you been evaluated for compartment syndrome or stress fractures? Unless your feet have been evaluated by a specialty footwear store, you may still be wearing the wrong shoes for your feet, even if they are “good” running shoes. These stores will look at your stance (usually both weight-bearing and non-), gait, and arches among other things. These services are usually free (at least where I got my shoes). They should be able to offer you a few pairs of shoes to try on for comfort. Do your legs hurt during normal activity? You may find some relief using orthotics in your footwear. The best thing to do after this is to take a break. Swim and biking, as long as they do not aggravate your shins. Try two weeks, but if your condition is bad, I have kept athletes out for over a month. These activities will give your shins some rest to begin healing, but allow you to maintain some level of fitness. After the initial 2 weeks, try a short walk (10 min or less). See how your legs feel. If they begin to hurt at any point, STOP, go home and ice for about 15 min. Take another week of just swimming and biking. Continue this regimen until you are able to take a 10 min walk with no pain. If they feel good, call it quits, go home and wrap some ice on them anyway. In two days, try it again. Still no pain? In two days try 15-20 min. Again, if any pain, Stop and go back to the previous step. The idea is to gradually work yourself back into activity. From walking, then go into some walking/some jogging. Next, progress to some jogging/some running. If the problem has been plaguing you for some time, it may take a while to resolve. Also, make sure you stretch your calves properly. The following excerpt is from WebMD and describes it well. Treatment for shin splints includes rest, massage, ice, stretching, and strengthening. Rest and ice is sometimes the best treatment. You should also be stretching your calves and Achilles tendon real well. If you have the problem during running or walking, try warming up more and don’t increase the speed too quickly. You can also try varying the speed and elevation of the treadmill if you use one instead of keeping it the same. To stretch your calves: 1. Lean against a wall with one leg forward and the knee bent. 2. Keep the rear leg straight, heel on the floor. 3. Keep your back straight and lean your hips forward until you feel a stretch in your calf. If you don’t feel it too much, put your toe of the rear leg up on a tree limb, or a dumbbell, or any other small object, so that you bend the ankle more. Your heel always remains on the floor. That will increase the stretch. 4. To stretch the soleus muscle and Achilles (very important for shin splints), do the same calf stretch but bend the back knee slightly and you will feel the pull on your Achilles tendon.

  • First of all, if you happen to be overwieght, work on that by swimming and/or cycling more. If not, then try to rest for a week or two before running or walking more. If neither of those are the case or work talk to a doctor about more options.

  • See a foot and ankle orthopedic surgeon. They will be able to assess what’s really going on. You might need to get orthotics which you can use in all of your shoes. They are made for your personally which can help you more than just a new pair of shoes or more supportive shoes could.

  • see a doctor. ice and heat should help some, possibly some streches but dont over do.

  • Wow, i have the same problem. I have really bad shin splints, they are like agonizing. What i do is the morning of a meet i take one advil, then in 9th period i take another advil. (Im a freshman in high school by the way) Also, ICE them. Heating them may feel good, but they wont help you in the long run at all, so don’t even bother. also, take really cold water and pour it in a dixie cup. put it in the freezer for overnight, and then the next morning run the ice(while its still in the dixie cup) up your shins. it feels SO good. I hope that helps :)

  • Shoe size for new sports shoes?

    June 11, 2011 by Admin

    Question:

i’m wearing a pair of Nike Air Force & my current shoe size is 8.5 (US), i’m getting a pair of royal elastics & may i know if i should get 8 or 9, because 8 is a bit too small but easy for me to run whereas 9 is slightly bigger, but it’s comfortable (according to the staff). looking forward to receiving your answers, cheers & happy new year!!

    Answer/s:

  • Yes get 9 so you can grow into them.

  • Your should get a 9 because over time your feet will hurt from the small shoes unless you just stretch them. And if your feet r still growing they will last longer

  • Try a 8.5 if they dont have half sizes and money is a problem buy 9 because they’ll last longer. If money isnt a problem try 8 because they fit perfect and u can get a bigger size when your feet grow.

  • Wow. I got more answers in the P&S section than in the Sports section! How does that make sense?!?

    May 23, 2011 by Admin

    Question:

Hey people! Should I or shouldn’t I buy this skateboard?!? I wear a size 7 to 71/2 in shoes, but I can fit in a 61/2 if I tried. This skateboard say it’s 7.8 inches. Would this work for me? And should I get this? I like the design and I’m not one of those people who “like” Tapout just because it’s popular for some reason now. I actually know what Tapout is. Here is the glorious link to a superb skateboard! :D http://www.dickssportinggoods.com/produc… So…. Should I or shouldn’t I? By the way, I’m a fifteen year old chick, if it helps. Thank you!

    Answer/s:

  • Yes, if you really want it, go get it…

  • When does insurance comapanies stop charging outrageous rate for male sports car drivers?

    March 29, 2011 by Admin

    Question:

I just turned 24 and am thinking about getting a sports car. I heard the insurance comapany charge outrageous rate for male drivers until certain age. I was wondering what that age is.

    Answer/s:

  • Yes males typically pay more than females of the same age. My rates went down dramatically when I turned 25. If you want lower rates then keep a clean driving record AND a good credit rating. Insurance companies now use your credit score as well as driving record and type of car to determine a rate. If you get married and buy a house they go down even more.

  • According to the insurance companies, all males magically start driving better when they turn 25, so your insurance rate will be significantly lower.

  • Even though rates improve with age–assuming a good driving record!–sports cars will always carry a higher insurance rate: more desireable to steal, and more expensive to repair.

  • There is a slight drop in price at 24, but when it comes to sports cars, they don’t really drop a whole lot until like 50. Insurance companies base their prices purely on statistics. There is a whole field of mathmatics called “actuarial science”, which deals with probablity. The fact of the matter is, men get into more accidents than women – that’s why they pay higher insurance. People who drive sports cars get into more accidents than people who drive mini-vans. People who wreck their mini-van cause like $4000 damage. People who wreck their sports cars cause $100,000 in property damage, not to mention the fact that they are now a “vegtable” in the hospital and their accident related health care costs will rack up a few million. Therefore, people who drive sports cars pay higher rates. They charge outrageous rates because they have to pay outrageous costs for young single males who drive sports cars. The easiest way to lower your insurance rate is to get married. Married men have families that depend upon them and therefore they wise up and slow down and drive more carefully. Insurance rates for single males don’t drop significantly until you get past the “mid-life crisis” age.

  • Your rates will go down when you reach 25, but sports cars always carry a higher rate because there are more accidents and injuries in the sports car group.

  • When male drivers in sports cars stop getting into accidents. The “age” varies by company and by state. Some states, it’s just seven full years licensed. Some states, it’s 25, or 26, or even 30. So there’s no one right answer. Just get the insurance quote BEFORE you buy the car, so you know what you’re getting into. And put 20% down on the car, so you’re not upside down if you total it.

  • Usually 25, but in the meantime, raise your comp and collision deductibles to save some dough. And go to an independent agent with lots of companies (not just four, more like over a dozen) to get you the best price. If sports car or young male drivers ever statistically become better risks, the price will drop. But they won’t.

  • Why do some Athletes go without socks in sports?

    February 27, 2011 by Admin

    Question:

I noticed that in some women’s sports the Athletes go with out socks. In softball one the players on the team said she prefers to wear her cleats with no socks because it helps her concentrate on pitching and she does that in both games and practice and said socks are to uncomfortable in cleats during games. I saw the same thing in basketball and tennis as mainly the women’s players go without socks in their shoes when playing and in practice. Most of them just said they can’t stand wearing socks when playing sports as one said makes them feel to much weight on their feet. Does it it really give an advanage?

    Answer/s:

  • I always thought they wore socks that barely cover the feet and were hidden by the shoe, I think some do. What’s interesting is a few years ago everyone used to tape their ankles when participating, whenever a trainer had to come out to attend to a tennis player they would have to cut the tape off and then re-apply. I think tennis shoes now are softer and more absorbent inside, terry cloth lining I suppose. Times change, no more socks and taping. I don’t know about an advantage, but if you feel more comfortable without socks, then it’s a psychological edge.
